The trip write-up promised three days of sailing, all a bit different from each other, and that was certainly the case.  Our two crews gathered Friday evening in Rock Hall, MD.  Dinner was at the Harbor Shack restaurant in time to watch the sunset.  The weather was warm, and we enjoyed a good dinner on the porch.  The rising full moon, a Harvest Moon, added to the evening’s enjoyment.

On Saturday morning, Steve’s crew got out first aboard Bay Poet, quickly followed by Rum Bob, and both boats raised sails after leaving Swan Creek.  The winds Saturday averaged about 10 knots, sometimes gusting higher and sometimes dropping.  These conditions gave everyone a turn at the wheel and provided opportunities to practice different sail sets.

We rafted up on the Magothy River and shared food, stories, and lots of laughter.

Swimming off the boat would have been refreshing Sunday morning, but we had been warned by Haven Charters not to consider it due to increased bacterial count in the late season very warm waters.  Sunday was another good sailing day once back on the bay.  We enjoyed both calm sailing for lunch underway and a few opportunities to fly with the wind.   As we neared the entrance to Castle Harbor Marina, we reluctantly took in our sails

Bay Poet's crew stayed aboard Sunday evening to finish bountiful quantities of appetizers from Saturday evening. The crew of Rum Bob headed out to dinner to the Pour House and had a really nice dinner with excellent service. Note: You can never have too many crab cakes served with cold draft beer! We learned that you need to study the posted specials closely as the Sunday night NFL special with 4 sliders, 2 crab and 2 burger with fries really was only $7. This was a popular choice and was excellent. New club members Wendy & Tom Elliott enjoyed exploring the marina. They spent some time talking with a couple who were renovating a newly purchased boat, which they plan to live aboard and cruise over the next 10 years. When we learned they were in their 70’s, we marveled at their courage. But realizing age is just a number and the boat was power, not sail, the thought appealed to a few of us.

Monday morning in the wee hours a lightning and thunder storm came through and brought in a new weather front. It continued to rain on and off the rest of the day. Concerned about another wave of storms, Bay Poet headed out at 7:30 AM while the skies were calm. Rum Bob crew lingered and had a leisurely breakfast while checking the weather channel. Since no more thunderstorms were forecast, the Rum Bob crew enjoyed a late start back to Haven Harbor after hot showers and arrived back about 1:30 PM. Thanks to everyone on the trip, as your participation makes these trips possible.
