There is something I know about you that you may not even know about yourself. You have within you more resources of energy than have ever been tapped, more talent than has ever been exploited, more strength than has ever been tested, and more to give than you have ever given. (John Gardner)

We will start with the premise that, although the voyage itself is often enjoyable, what truly makes this weekend a success is what happens at the end of each day; the food, the camaraderie the socializing, the teasing, the games...

Columbus Day Weekend often provides some of nature's most colorful scenery in this part of the country and the drive to Haven Charters in Rock Hall may be an enjoyable journey in itself. Hopefully you won't become too distracted by it to miss arriving in time to stow your gear and meet up with your crewmates for some excellent Maryland crab dinners in one of Rock Hall's finer restaurants.

After the ritual of morning breakfast, final boat checkout and last minute provisioning, Saturday morning we will head out for a quiet spot behind Cacaway Island, pictured below. Can you guess where it is?

This night we will continue the Club tradition of an appetizer and dessert raft-up party. The entertainment for the evening needs your creative input, so please send along your ideas with your sign-up, or at any time.

After a leisurely Sunday morning breakfast, the day can be spent doing as much or as little sailing as the crews' desire. October is one of the best months on the Chesapeake for great winds, so it may be difficult to take the sails down and head for port, but a nearby marina awaits with the usual amenities, as well as several fine restaurants within walking distance that will beckon you. If for some unimaginable reason the sailing just isn't fun, an early arrival at the marina and a short cab ride will take you to a nearby outlet mall (can you guess where the marina is?).

Our last day's sail back to Rock Hall is not a long one, so another leisurely departure from … oops, almost gave it away … will still provide enough time to enjoy the day and still be able to return the boats by 4:00 PM, fueled up and pumped out.

The cost of the trip is $350 per person (Skippers - $175). This price covers charter fees and insurance. Food, fuel and marina slips fees plus any other incidentals expenses are additional and will be handled by each boat's crew. A $100 deposit is required to hold your position. Please make your check payable to The Sailing Club, Inc. and mail it, along with your completed reservation form to Julio Menendez, at the address below. Reservations will be processed beginning on April 8, 2005 with a random draw of those received by that date. All reservations received after that date are on a first-come, first-served basis. The balance of $250 will be due on August 24, 2005.

A pre-trip meeting will be held at a time and place to be announced. All crewmembers should make every effort to attend in order to meet our crewmates, plan your meals and make travel plans.
