BASIC KEELBOAT - ASA CERTIFICATION

JUNE 3-4, 2006

In cooperation with The New Jersey Sailing School, the second part of On-The-Water Training this year is designed for the members who are new to the sport and club, or who simply wish to improve their basic sailing skills and earn a certification in the process. It is comprised of a two-hour classroom discussion on the theory and principles of sail. The balance of the two days will be on the water in Pt. Pleasant, NJ. Upon successful completion of both the on-water evaluation and a written exam participants will receive an ASA certification in Basic Keelboat.

This two-day course will include:
6 Basic Knots
Nautical Terms Related To
Bowline Parts of the boat & sails
Reef hitch (square knot) Standing and running rigging
Stop knot Tacking and gybing
Cleat hitch Points of sail
Clove hitch Rules of the road
Round turn with two half-hitches Aids to Navigation (ATONS)

Practice on the water going through all points of sail, proper commands for tacking and gybing, Man-Over-Board (MOB), heaving-to and reefing, shaking out a reef, anchoring under sail, backing the vessel while under sail and sailing off from anchor.

The cost of the class is $225.00 per person. This price covers all fees, books and exam. The full amount is required at sign-up to hold your position. Please make your check payable to The Sailing Club, Inc. and mail it, along with your completed reservation form, to Dave Steward, at the address below. Reservations will be processed beginning April 14, 2006 with a random draw of those received by that date. All reservations received after that date are on a first-come, first-served basis.
