“I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.” - Will Rogers

Our journey begins in Annapolis. It is a place of many firsts, oldest, and largest. The history in this town is almost palpable as you stroll down its streets. If you get to town early enough, you can discover a few of them yourself. There’s lot’s of great restaurants and bars near our marina as well. The Boatyard Bar and Grill is one of the best and is the major sailors hang out in Annapolis and is only a few blocks from our boats. It’s a great place to meet your fellow crewmembers after you put away all your food and gear where you will never find it again!

We have three boats reserved from Let’s Go Cruising, a charter firm that we have used many times and always provides good boats. When you arrive, find your boat and your berth. Once you are squared away you will have time for dinner and some land-based gunk holing and pub-crawling. Just start walking up Compromise Street to the head of Annapolis Harbor which is also known locally as “Ego Alley” due to all of the great boats that are tied up there on weekends.

Next morning we will head south on the Bay about 20 miles to the Little Choptank River. This area is much less developed than many of the rivers on the Western Shore or even the Miles and Choptank Rivers on the Eastern Shore, so we will get to enjoy unspoiled anchorages and the fall wildlife that abound this time of year. We will raft up on one of the many smaller rivers near the mouth of the Little Choptank so that we can get underway for Solomon’s Island early the next day.

We have a good sailing leg for day 2. Solomon’s Island is our destination; Solomon’s Yachting Center more specifically, up Back Creek off the Patuxent River. Solomon’s Island has a quaint little town that has a lot of interesting shops and sights. We should arrive early enough to allow time to explore the area before dinner and party time. We will have slips here so you will have easy access to shore.

On Sunday we head back north to Dun’s Cove on Harris Creek near Tilghman Island. You can get there a couple of different ways, either via the Choptank River or through Knapp Narrows. If you go by way of Knapp Narrows, it is easy to stop off at the marina there for lunch or whatever. There is a nice restaurant and bar there that we have visited many times on past trips. This is your trip leader’s home marina, but it would be safer not to mention that you know him!

The last day will find us coursing our way 15 miles back to Annapolis Harbor. Unload all of that food that you didn’t eat and the clothes you didn’t need to bring before loading up and heading home. As a service to our crews, Jeff and I will be glad to take home any extra beer and wine that you did not consume on the trip! Hey, someone has to do it!

Fall on the Chesapeake Bay is one of the best times to be there – cool temperatures, good winds and no crowds. We hope that you will decide to join us on what will be a great trip!

The cost of the trip is $410.00 per person (Skippers - $215.00). This price covers charter fees, insurance and one night’s slip fees. Food, fuel, and other incidental expenses are additional and will be handled by each boat’s crew. A $100.00 deposit is required to hold your position. Please make your check payable to The Sailing Club, Inc. and mail it, along with your completed reservation form, to Don Gilmore at the address below. Reservations will be processed beginning April 14, 2006 with a random draw of those received by that date. All reservations received after that date are on a first-come, first-served basis. The balance of $310.00 will be due August 22, 2006.

A pre-trip meeting will be held at a time and place to be announced. All crewmembers should make every effort to attend in order to meet your crewmates, plan your meals, and make travel plans.
