This year’s OWT will provide the traditional exercises in line handling while leaving and approaching T-docks, slips and moorings; the traditional sessions. New this year will be exercises in putting together a raft and separating it, as well as anchoring techniques. Additionally, a seminar on effective communication and teamwork will be introduced to the skipper and first mate teams. Selected chapters and pages from “At The Helm: Business Lessons for Navigating Rough Waters,” by Peter Isler and Peter Economy, and “Shackleton’s Way: Leadership Lessons from the Great Antarctic Explorer” by Margot Morrell and Stephanie Capparell will be used in conjunction with this portion of the two day seminar.
Tentative agenda:

1. Day 1, discussion from “At The Helm,” and “Shackleton’s Way.” 0800 – 1000
2. Day 1, 1000 to 1630 docking exercises. Communication.
3. Day 2, 0830 to 1530 anchoring and rafting exercises. Communication.

Communication Seminar

At The Helm - Read beforehand and prepare to discuss Chapters 1, 4, and 6.
Shackleton’s Way - Read beforehand and prepare to discuss Chapter 1, page 25 (Shackleton helped boost the morale of the crew), page 34-42. Chapter 3, page 86-99.

The books will be part of this event and are included in the course fee.

The cost of the trip is $275.00 per person. This price covers charter fees, insurance and two books. Food, fuel, and other incidental expenses are additional and will be handled by each boat’s crew. Reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis, and the full amount is required at signup.
