You can swing it you can groove it
You can really start to move it at the hop
Where the jockey is the smoothest
And the music is the coolest at the hop.
All the cats and chicks can get their kicks at the hop.

It’s the 50’s all over again! While we can’t go to Palisades Park, we can Rock Around The Clock! The September trip will be a time to celebrate the simpler times. Remember When all we had was AM radio, black and white television and tap water! Well, get out those saddle shoes, poodle skirts and leather jackets. Don’t Say You Don’t Remember sock hops and drive-ins.

Our Sea Cruise will start at Haven Charters in Rock Hall. After arriving Friday evening and stowing gear, make for one of the fine eateries in town for some excellent seafood. On Saturday, after any last minute provisioning and boat matters, we will head out into the main part of the Chesapeake for some delightful sailing. By this time of year, the crowds will have dispersed; but the days are still warm and the breezes fresh.

The plan is to sail south to the Magothy River. Here we will raft up and break out the Juke Boxes, get dressed for the [Wind]Sock Hop and decorate our flotilla for the occasion. As boat cockpits are typically smaller than high school gyms, you may have to take small dance steps. Prizes will be awarded in various categories for individual initiative as well as boat participation. Categories being considered are Prom Queen, Best Elvis, Best Doo-Wop performance and best outfit. Decision of the judges will be arbitrary and final.

On Sunday, we will sail to Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, where we will have slips reserved at the Inner Harbor East Marina. This marina is convenient to the main part of the Inner Harbor, as well as Fells Point. There will be time to visit the Maritime Museum, and possibly take a tour of the USS Constellation. Dinner ashore will be at any of the town’s many restaurants. There will also be time to explore on Monday morning, as the trip back to Rock Hall is just a short shot across the bay. There might even be time for lunch at Bertha’s Mussels.

I hope we will See You In September!

The cost of the trip is $400.00 per person (Skippers - $210.00). This price covers charter fees, insurance and one night’s slip fees. Food, fuel, and other incidental expenses are additional and will be handled by each boat’s crew. A $100.00 deposit is required to hold your position.  Please make your check payable to The Sailing Club, Inc. and mail it, along with your completed reservation form , to Steve Krakauer at the address below. Reservations will be processed beginning April 11, 2008 with a random draw of those received by that date. All reservations received after that date are on a first-come, first-served basis. The balance of $300.00 will be due August 6, 2008.

A pre-trip meeting will be held at a time and place to be announced. All crewmembers should make every effort to attend in order to meet your crewmates, plan your meals, and make travel plans.
