The Sailing Club, Inc.

Have you ever had to choose between getting away in the summer with your significant other or devoted spouse, or sailing? Here’s the answer… Something for everyone… Sailing, shopping, dining, and sightseeing with all the comforts of a real bed at night. Air conditioning 24/7, unlimited water, and a place to party that doesn’t involve tripping over lifelines.

Yes, this is all possible. We have chartered 3 sloops from Boston Harbor Sailing Club, waiting at moorings off Rowes Wharf in the heart of Boston. In the evenings, bunk at The John Jeffries House, a bed and breakfast overlooking the Charles River. Plan on arriving Tuesday evening and stay three nights (feel free to stay longer). A block of rooms has been set aside, but lodging is not included in the trip price. Everyone must make his or her own arrangements. Get your roommates together whether they sail or not!

Each morning after breakfast sailors can take the launch to the boats and sail around Boston’s Inner Harbor. If the winds are unfavorable, or you want to skip that day of sailing, go to the place where everyone knows your name – Cheers. While the sailors are sailing, all you shoppers and sightseers can hit the town for the best deals or the most spectacular museums, Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market, New England Aquarium, the Freedom Trail and other sites too numerous to mention. Don’t forget golf!

No wind? Maybe we’ll all board a whale-watching excursion.
Boat too small? Check out Old Ironsides [the USS Constitution], the oldest commissioned warship in the world.
Sail a full day or part of the day, and then meet your non-sailing partner for some shore activities.
What ever we do, we will all get together afterwards for drinks and dinner.

Sound like fun? This trip is definitely different from The Sailing Club’s usual offerings. Non-sailors no longer have to feel abandoned, or trapped on a boat for days; plus, doesn’t it sound good to sail wherever the wind blows, have a hot shower waiting when you return from “the sea”, eat a romantic dinner, and sleep in a real bed?

Hurry, space is limited. Non-sailor’s names should be included on the sign-up form, but there is no fee to the Club for them, and they do not need to be Club members.

The cost of the trip for the sailing portion is $320.00 per person (Skippers - $160.00). This price covers charter fees and insurance. Food, fuel, lodging, shore expenses, and other incidental expenses are additional and will be handled by each boat’s crew. A deposit is required to hold your position. Please make your check payable to The Sailing Club, Inc. and mail it, along with your completed reservation form to Larry Sherwood at the address below. Reservations will be processed beginning April 10, 2009 with a random draw of those received by that date. All reservations received after that date are on a first-come, first-served basis.  The balance of $220.00 will be due June 29, 2009.

A pre-trip meeting will be held at a time and place to be announced. All crewmembers should make every effort to attend in order to meet your crewmates, plan your meals, and make travel plans.
