“If you can remember anything about the sixties, you weren't really there.”
                                          – Jefferson Airplane co-founder Paul Kantner

It’s a weekend of psychedelic fun as we explore the western bay in the sixties time warp fleet! Our time travels begin from Annapolis Bay Charters, located on the south side of Back Creek, less than a mile walk from the center of town. We’ll depart on Saturday morning to venture out into the waters of the Chesapeake Bay.  Heading south with reserved favorable winds, everyone will have a chance at the helm and handling the sails as we cruise past historic light houses and landmarks. We’ll poke into the shallows for our overnight stop in the Rhode River.  The Rhode is home to the Smithsonian’s Environmental Research Center and remains blissfully undeveloped.

Once we’re settled in our three-boat raft we’ll turn back time, skimming through the years to land smack dab in the middle of the decade of peace and love. Get decked out in your tie-dyes and bell-bottoms, and don’t forget the peace signs and black lights for our far out evening festivities. Whip up those long forgotten food and drink favorites from sixties cocktail parties to serve to the fleet. Organized party entertainment will include trivia, food, and costume contests, with prizes in various categories. Disorganized party entertainment is also guaranteed.

Sunday can be as laid back as we want it to be: lay some rubber to get out onto the bay for the morning breezes, or hang loose at anchor in the creek all morning. But the hep cats will jam on down to Herrington Harbour South Marina before the day gets too late. We’ll tie up in reserved slips and enjoy the marina’s ample amenities, including swimming pool, fitness center, sauna, and kayak rentals. Crews can decide whether to have dinner aboard, at Mangos Bar and Grill in the marina, or to venture further afield by taxi.

Monday’s sail is short enough to allow another lazy start. Or peel out of Herrington to get in another few hours of sailing on the bay – but no racing for pink slips -- before returning the boats to Annapolis.

We’ve chartered a Beneteau 361, Delphia 37, and Jeaneau 37, each with two cabins and one head, plus convertible dining tables. All have refrigerators and CD players. This will be a great trip for those seeking an active weekend focused on sailing, boat handling, and psychedelic fun.

The cost of the trip is $390.00 per person (Skippers - $205.00). This price covers charter fees, insurance and one night’s slip fees. Food, fuel, and other incidental expenses are additional and will be handled by each boat’s crew. A $100.00 deposit is required to hold your position. Please make your check payable to The Sailing Club, Inc. and mail it, along with your completed reservation form, to Mia McCroskey at the address below. Reservations will be processed beginning April 10, 2009 with a random draw of those received by that date. All reservations received after that date are on a first-come, first-served basis. The balance of $290.00 will be due August 5, 2009.
