This trip is timed to avoid the summer crowds and prices while still enjoying the warm sun and good winds. We have chartered a Beneteau Oceanis 41.1 and SunOdyssey 409 from Dream Yacht Charters in Port Calanova, Palma de Mallorca. Saturday, September 12: The marina is between the beaches of Cala
Mayor and Illetas. We will board the boats at 5:00 p.m. After skippers check out
the boats and we store our gear, we will head out for dinner. The marina offers
two restaurants, a swimming pool, and water sports. There are banks, bars and a
pharmacy within a five minute’s walk. We will make it an easy evening to enable
our tired travelers to get some rest.
Monday, September 14 (21 nm): Sail to Cala Figuera, where seafood restaurants abound in this quaint fishing village, so plan on dinner ashore and a stroll around town. The water is clear and the snorkeling is good in this area. The town of Cala Figuera stretches from high cliffs to the south of the town to the fishing harbor at the end of a fjord-like inlet which holds some of the most picturesque traditional buildings in the whole of Mallorca, as well as a number of millionaires' mansions overlooking the scenic harbor entrance Tuesday, September 15 (16 nm): Sail to Porto Cristo Take one of the hourly tours of Las Cuevas del Drach (the Caves of the Dragon), a huge underground expanse with live music on Europe’s largest underground lake. Or spend the afternoon exploring Porto Cristo. We’ll have a group dinner ashore in Porto Cristo Wednesday, September 16 (35 nm): Sail to Isla de Cabrera (35 nm). We’ll reserve moorings in advance to visit this pristine, uninhabited national park, which gets very few visitors. Plan on making dinner aboard after our long sail
Thursday, September 17 (Isla de Cabrera layover day): We’ll spend the day hiking, snorkeling, and relaxing in this Mediterranean paradise. Visit the park office for information on hiking trails and the best places to snorkel. The circa 1400 castle was built to provide smoke and fire signals to the larger island when Berber pirates approached. Rich in history and wildlife, Cabrera will provide plenty for everyone to do. While the island has a cantina, plan on dinner aboard. Friday, September 18 (30 nm): We’ll enjoy one final sail on our way back to home base at Palma de Mallorca. It should be long enough to satisfy everyone. After refueling, we’ll return to our slips and convene for a traditional must-go dinner. Saturday, September 19: Alas, we must be off our boats by 9:00 a.m. But that’s just a good reason to plan some further exploration of Mallorca, or the other Balaerics. GETTING THERE Palma Airport (PMI) is the third largest in Spain, and is reachable from many European cities, while Barcelona and Valencia are the closest mainland Spanish cities. There are some reliable discount airlines that fly to Palma from those cities and from elsewhere on the continent. The cost of this trip is $825.00 per person (Skippers and Trip Leader - $473.00). The price includes charter fees, slip/mooring fees for two nights, dinghy with motor, linens, and a trip memento. Provisioning, airfare, fuel, pump-out, cruising permits, port fees, and other incidentals are additional and will be handled by each boat’s crew. A $100.00 deposit and Release of Liability and Zero Tolerance Form must accompany your Reservation Form. Please make your check payable to The Sailing Club, Inc. and mail it, along with your completed reservation and release forms, to Mia McCroskey at the address below. Reservations will be processed beginning April 4, 2020 with a random draw of those received by that date. All reservations received after that date are on a first come, first served basis. A final payment of $725.00 is due on July 29, 2020. The Club’s standard thirty-day cancellation policy applies for this event. As mentioned on Page 5 of this package, confirmed participants should make their own decision regarding travel insurance. A pre-trip meeting will be held three to four weeks before the trip, at a time and place to be announced. All crewmembers should make every effort to attend in order to meet your crewmates, plan your meals, and make travel plans.
