Return of the Pirates of the Chesapeake

Avast me hearties, it’s time to muster all hands for another piratical cruise. We’ll plunder and pillage our way from tranquil Rock Hall, Maryland past the turbulent waters of Swan Creek to the rural splendor of the Corsica River with sails deployed and (toy) guns at the ready. Fair autumn winds will drive us as we range far and wide in search of the treasures of the Bay.

All crews should report on Friday afternoon to ready our vessels for adventure. When provisions are stowed and the rum fairly secured we’ll celebrate the trip with a final meal ashore.

Saturday morning it’s all hands to the rigging to set the sails and the course for our first day of adventure. The autumn winds will be fair for our course – because any point of sail is better than staying home – and we’ll make course south toward our first night’s anchorage in the Corsica River. Each pirate will have a chance for a turn at the wheel and working the sheets.

The first ship in the anchorage will have the advantage of position as the others approach, so prepare the cannons and have the sabers ready to rattle. Once dominance has been established through threats, loud music, decorations, and piratical costumes, we’ll secure the raft and settle down for some serious pirate partying. Anyone not talkin’ like a pirate (www.talklikeapirate.com/howto.html) will be made to walk the plank! We’ll uphold The Sailing Club tradition of a supper of appetizers. Crews are challenged to invent their best piratical fare – the use of rum is highly encouraged.

Don’t stow the costumes and guns just yet, because after another fantastic day of sailing on Sunday we’ll raft up again – perhaps with less fanfare and faux gunfire. The Magothy River on the western shore of the bay will be the site of this evening’s affair. After crews have dined we’ll convene for shared desserts and pirate trivia, with prizes awarded for high scores and high ribaldry.
Monday’s trip is shorter, but if the winds are fair we’ll sail as long as we can before heading for our traditional last stop - the fuel dock. !

The cost of the trip is $360.00 per person (Skippers - $184.00). This price covers charter fees and insurance. Food, fuel, pump-out, and other incidental expenses are additional and will be handled by each boat’s crew. A $100.00 deposit is required to hold your position. Please make your check payable to The Sailing Club, Inc. and mail it, along with your completed reservation form, to Mia McCroskey at the address below. Reservations will be processed beginning April 13, 2012 with a random draw of those received by that date. All reservations received after that date are on a first-come, first-served basis. The balance of $260.00 will be due July 24, 2012.
The Club’s standard cancellation policy applies for this event.

A pre-trip meeting will be held approximately two weeks before the trip, at a time and place to be announced. All participants should make every effort to attend in order to meet your crewmates, plan your meals, and make travel plans.

Please note that sailing conditions are dynamic, that your safety, and that of your crewmates, depends on your good physical health and agility.
