Summer Solstice on the Chesapeake Bay

Sailing away from land is always good for your body and soul. Join our Summer Solstice Cruise to celebrate the longest day of the year with a long sail down the beautiful Chesapeake Bay. This three day weekend trip aboard boats from Haven Charters in Rock Hall, Maryland will include a raft up in serene Dun Cove to watch the sunset on the longest day of the year, some great sailing back up the bay, and a night at a marina complete with pool and Jacuzzi before we return to Rock Hall on Monday, June 23nd.

Friday, June 20th: Rock Hall is having an antique car show with oldies music from 5:30 to 8:30. After checking out our boats and loading our gear, we can go visit the classics and remember our youths before heading to one of our favorite restaurants for dinner.

Saturday, June 21st: We’ll greet the sun and enjoy a quick breakfast, take care of any remaining boat checks and errands, and depart as early as possible. Our sail down the bay will take us to Dun Cove, about thirty nautical miles. Once the raft is secure we will cool off with a swim or an “anchor’s down” beverage (or both). Once refreshed we’ll begin dinner and Summer Solstice festivities. We plan on a three-boat barbeque with burgers and dogs, salads, and some sweets to round out the meal.

Sunday, June 22nd: With the prospect of a fully equipped marina at the end of the day, we will probably lift anchors promptly after a swim and breakfast. Our destination is Castle Harbor Marina near Love Point, where we will have the use of their pool, Jacuzzi, and showers. Dinner is either onshore at the marina picnic area or onboard, which will be determined by each boat and can be decided at the pre-trip meeting. We will take a group photo Sunday evening with our Club Flag.

Monday, June 23rd: Because of the lack of other pleasure boaters and jet skis, Monday sailing provides a special “just us” feeling on the Bay and we may choose to sail as long as possible before heading back for our late afternoon check-in and unloading. But before hitting the road, plan to give yourself one more treat. Stop for a short visit at Durding’s Store on North Main Street in Rock Hall for ice cream or a soda. It’s a step back in time to an old fashioned ice cream parlor, and will make your drive back home sweeter.

The cost of the trip is $350.00 per person (Skippers - $185.00). The trip price includes charter fees, one night’s slip fees, and supplies to celebrate the longest day. Fuel, provisioning, pump-out, and other incidentals are additional and will be handled by each boat’s crew. A $100.00 deposit and Release of Liability and Zero Tolerance Form must accompany your reservation form.

Please make your check payable to The Sailing Club, Inc. and mail it, along with your completed reservation and Release forms, to Mary Ann Gordon at the address below. Reservations will be processed beginning April 12, 2014 with a random draw of those received by that date. All reservations received after that date are on a first-come, first served basis. The balance of $250.00 will be due May 7, 2014. The Club’s standard thirty-day cancellation policy applies for this event.

A pre-trip meeting will be held approximately two weeks before the trip, at a time and place to be announced. All participants should make every effort to attend in order to meet your crewmates, plan your meals, and make travel plans.

Please note that sailing conditions are dynamic, that your safety, and that of your crewmates, depends on your good physical health and agility.
