CHESTER RIVER
SEPTEMBER 13 - 15, 2025
Early Board September 12
ROCK HALL, KENT ISLAND, CHESTER RIVER, MD
A three-day exploration of anchorages off the Chester River and a visit to a Club favorite marina are the highlights of this relaxed, post-summer cruise. Relatively short distances allow for plenty of sailing, or, if the wind is not in our favor, more time at anchor for swimming and socializing. The bay is still warm enough to swim, and, hopefully, the jellyfish are gone by mid-September.
The Trip
We’ll gather at Haven Harbor Marina on Friday, September 12th. The skippers will check out our boats, then we’ll all get settled on board. Crews will go out to dinner at one of Rock Hall’s restaurants, where the seafood is fresh and the drinks flow.
On Saturday. we’ll depart Rock Hall and sail about 20 miles past Love Point, around Cedar Point, then north on the Chester River to Lankford Creek where we’ll anchor and raft-up. We’ll have a traditional Sailing Club appetizer dinner.
In the morning, we’ll break up the raft and sail south about twelve miles toward Kent Narrows. The short sail will permit us to explore other anchorages and possibly have lunch at anchor. Later in the afternoon we’ll hang a left into Castle Marina and slips for the night. Castle Marina has a great pool and hot tub, and saunas in the bathhouse. Dinner can be aboard, or at the marina’s barbeque picnic area, or there is a restaurant and a pub just outside the gates. Or Kent Narrows many waterside restaurants are a short cab ride away.
On Sunday we’ll depart Castle Marina and sail about twelve miles back to Rock Hall. This additional short sail will give time to exit the Chester and get some sailing on Chesapeake Bay before returning to Haven Harbour to return the boats and head home.
Our Boats
We’ve chartered two sloops in the 40-foot range from Haven Charters in Rock Hall, Maryland. Each offers comfort and ease of sailing at a moderate price. Each boat will have a crew of six.
