On Land Training
The Sailing Club’s skippers and first mates offer instruction in various topics including chart-reading, radio communications, knots, and much more. The class is free to all. Registration is required due to capacity constraints.

On Water Training
Two days of training aboard the kind of monohull sailboats we typically charter. Participants will learn about boat systems, safety protocols and equipment, and line handling. Out on the water everyone will take a turn driving the boat under power in exercises to simulate picking up a mooring and docking. You’ll also experience anchoring the boat. When the sails go up, you’ll take turns steering and handling the sheets. This weekend is highly recommended for novices an those returning to sailing after a break — but it’s great for anyone after a long, cold winter ashore.

Oh, Canada!
The North Channel, on the Canadian side of Lake Huron, is as close as you can get these days to a pristine wilderness. Azure blue water, pink and peach colored granite rocks outlining the deep green of spruce, pine and poplar which, in turn, provides habitat for bald eagles, elk, black bear and beaver, and many other North Woods wildlife. Consider spending a pleasant week in August; away from the heat and crowded roads, and explore the azure blue waters of The North Channel, Lake Huron, on a sailboat with friends.

Chester River
A three-day exploration of anchorages off the Chester River and a visit to a Club favorite marina are the highlights of this relaxed, post-summer cruise. Relatively short distances allow for plenty of sailing or, if the wind is not in our favor, more time at anchor for swimming and socializing. The bay is still warm enough to swim and, hopefully, the jellyfish are gone by mid-September.

Join us on a seven-day sail east from Key West to snorkel the reef of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. We’ll also visit some resort marinas between Key West and Marathon. This mid-January cruise will provide us with some welcome warmth away from the cold weather of the Northeast.
