SUMMER SOLSTICE SAILING
JUNE 19 – 22, 2025
Early Board June 18
ROCK HALL, RHODE RIVER, HERRINGTON HARBOUR, GIBSON ISLAND
Welcome aboard for a relaxing summer solstice weekend with easy sailing and a stay at Herrington Harbor. We have submitted a request for great weather, and as usual for the summer solstice weekend, our request is sure to be granted.
Plan on arriving in Rock Hall on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 18, to stow gear and head out to dinner at one of the favorite spots in Rock Hall.
Thursday morning, after our skippers meet and give the go-ahead, we will head out on to the Chesapeake for a 25 nm sail to the Rhode River, where we will anchor and have our traditional raft up appetizer-dinner party. It’s the summer solstice weekend, so bring your best ideas for appetizers that represent the glory of the longest day of the year. Enter the contest for the best summer appetizer. Prizes are guaranteed to be useless!
Friday morning will be another early departure as we head down to our Sailing Club favorite – Herrington Harbor – where we will find an Olympic-size pool, a beach, lounge chairs, picnic areas, and more. We will decide as a group if we want to have a barbecue or go out to dinner.
Herrington Harbour South Marina
After our relaxing visit to Herrington Harbor, we will leave on Saturday for a 26 nm sail into the Magothy River and our anchorage at Gibson Island. Our summer solstice celebration will be a group dinner aboard. Laughs, good friends, and food will be in plentiful supply. Instead of each boat preparing its own dinner, we will have a potluck across both boats and have a group dinner onboard. Sunset is at 8:35 p.m. that day, so we have plenty of daylight hours to enjoy the ambience.
Sunday morning, we will pull up anchor and sail back to Rock Hall to once again say goodbye to friends until next time.
The Boats
Two identical boats have been reserved from Haven Charters. Both have three cabins and two heads and, while docked, air conditioning.
